In a high rise condo unit, the balcony has a door which locks from the inside. To exit the unit one must walk across a smooth marble floor to either of two exit doors, which are kept locked from the inside. One opens to an elevator lobby which has a smooth tile floor. This is normally used for entrance and exit. The other door is an emergency exit to a catwalk. The elevator has a smooth marble floor. It exits to a lobby with a smooth marble floor, or to the garage which has a concrete floor. Chapter 10, Section 1002 Defines Means of Egress "A continuous and unobstructed path...from any occupied portion... "Section 1003.4 Refers to floor surface.1003.6 refers to Means of Egress continuity, specifying no obstructions. Question. Can the balcony have a smooth floor? question
