Guard rails on boat docks

Question

Is it the intent of 1013.1 to provide guard rails, over water, for boat docks? Is there another section that pertains strictly to boat docks?

No. Section 1013.1, Exception No.1 applies.

Commentary

No guards are required on the loading side of docks or piers. A boat may be "loaded" at any point along the length of a dock. Water is not grade or floor. Any elevated walkway leading to the pier or dock that is greater than 30" above grade would need guards.
