  • Code Version: 2007
  • Code: BUILDING
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter: 30
  • Section: 3002.4
  • Topic:

  • Question: Is it the intent of Chapter 30 to delineate
where elevators are required or simply describe
the particulars of type, installation, and
maintenence of an otherwise required elevator?

Answer on 09/01/2010 at 6:51 PM

Where elevators are provided, they must meet the criteria
outlined in 3002.4

Commentary:

One area in the code that would "require" an elevator or equivalent facilitation would be the vertical accessibility requirements found in chapter-11. Further, Florida Statute 399.035(2) states, "Any building that is more than three stories high or in which the vertical distance between the bottom terminal landing and the top terminal landing exceeds 25 feet must be constructed to contain at least one passenger elevator that is operational and will accommodate an ambulance stretcher 76 inches long and 24 inches wide in the horizontal position."
