Stage areas are usually behind the proscenium wall and a
minimum of two means of egress meeting the width and
handrail requirements are required. The area in front of
the proscenium wall can have stairs that have one handrail
at the wall, unless the stairs are the primary egress from
the stage.

Commentary
This section requires a Means of Egress, compliant with
Chapter 10, from each side of the stage behind the
proscenium. The steps on the audience side are not intended
to be part of the Means of Egress.
