Question

Is it the intent of Florida Building Code - Building Section 423.8.3.4(2) to include in the Exception allowing Type V construction a single story DCA approved press box when it is installed in a stadium at the top bleacher row? The press box is detached from the main educational facility by at least 60 feet and is supported by structural supports. Would installation at the top row of bleachers cause the press box to not be considered a single story?

Commentary

The press box would have to be of Type I, II, or IV construction. The situation described is not a single story application. The press box is several stories up in the air, depending on the height of the grandstand. To be a single story application the press box would have to be on grade and 60 feet away from any of the main educational building(s). This is consistant with the historic interpretation from the Department of Education on this subject.
