  • Code: EXTBLDG
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 706.1
  • Topic: Positive Roof Drainage

  • Question: Is it the intent of the exemption in section 706.1 that Reroofing shall not be required to meet the minimum design slope requirement of one-quarter unit vertical in 12 units horizontal for roofs that provide positive roof drainage within 48 hours of precipitation?

Answer:

Yes: FBC-Existing Section 706.1 including the Exception states that reroofing shall not be required to meet the minimum design slope requirement of one-quarter unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (2% slope) for roofs that provide positive roof drainage. This section is silent regarding reroofing on roofs that do not provide positive drainage. The section should not be read to connotate that positive roof drainage is required, or that reroofing on a roof that does not provide positive roof drainage is prohibited.
