Question: Is the intent of 3007.4.4 to provide a clear 8 feet dimension for the entire length of the elevator lobby or are minor column encroachments into the 8 feet allowed provided 150 square feet is provided?

Answer:

(2010 FBC-B) Yes, The code does not give any exception for an encroachment within the required 8 foot minimum width. The intent of this section is for the staging of fire personnel (entering and exiting).
