Original Request

  • Request ID: 8537
  • Requested By: Steve Innes
  • Requester E-Mail: steve.innes@mlbfl.org
  • Code Version: 2021
  • Code: RESIDENT
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: R310.1.1
  • Topic: Operational constraints and opening control devices
  • Question: Is it the intent of section R310.1.1 Operational constraints and opening control devices that the two tabs at the top of replacement vinyl impact windows that allows the lower window panel to be opened inwards to allow for a larger opening size be excluded as special knowledge?
  • Comment: The replacement window has created a smaller emergency escape and rescue opening than the old window. However, if the bottom panel is opened by using the two tabs at the top that the owner was show to use to clean the window the opening size may actual be larger than the old window. It requires to be no more “special knowledge” to unlock the window, using tabs; release child safety locks, using tabs; than to use tabs to open the window for cleaning or escape to create the largest opening area possible.
