  • Code Version: 2021
  • Code: ACCSCODE
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 604.8.1.6
  • Topic: Lavatory in a wheelchair accessible toilet compartment
  • Question: Does this section require a wall mounted sink only or can the requirement be fulfilled with a section countertop and drop in sink?
  • Comment: In lieu of a sink that is mounted to the wall we would like to provide a section of countertop with a drop-in sink? the counter and sink would meet accessibility requirements for knee & toe clearances as well as reach ranges and faucet controls.

Input Received:

I would consider a counter with drop in sink, that meets all of the sizes, clearances, ranges and clear floor space requirements, as meeting the code for a wall mounted sink.

Answer:

As the interpretation and application of the code requirement, you could consider a counter with a drop in sink, that meets all of the sizes, clearances, ranges and clear floor space requirements as meeting the intent for a wall mounted sink.
