Original Request

  • Request ID: 8520
  • Requested By: Gisell Basilio
  • Requester E-Mail: gbasilio@rcieng.com
  • Code Version: 2021
  • Code: ENERGY
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: R403.13.1
  • Topic: Ducted Dehumidifiers
  • Question: Is it the intent of Section R403.13.1, exception 3 to not allow the connection of a dehumidifier to or from the main return duct of a split system?
  • Comment: It is more difficult to dehumidify colder air (55F supply air vs 75F return air), even though the supply air is saturated. Also, some manufacturers recommend the installation of the dehumidifier only on the return side of the system or from the return duct to the supply duct of the central system. See attachment.
