  • Code Version: 2021
  • Code: PLUMBING
  • Code Description:
  • Chapter:
  • Section: 312
  • Topic: interceptor testing
  • Question: Is section 312 to be interpreted to require water testing of precast interceptor tanks above the precast concrete lid?
  • Comment: I have previously tested grease/oil/sand interceptor tanks by filling the tank to overflow without the lid but am being told this is incorrect based on section 312

Existing Interpretations and/or Declaratory Statements Related to this request

Input Received:

No. The construction materials and standards for precast wastewater treatment receptacles such as septic tanks and grease interceptors are governed by 64E-6.013 F.A.C. Treatment receptacles are required to be watertight. Water tightness testing consists of filling the receptacle with water "to the invert of the outlet", and holding for one hour. Additionally, the joints of the receptacles, including mid-seams, risers, and lids shall be sealed using a bonding compound that meets ASTM C990-96, but no specific water testing is indicated for the risers and lids.
