  • Code: Plumbing

  • Chapter:
  • Section: 801.2
  • Topic: Protection
  • Question:
Is it the intent of 2020 Florida Building Code, Plumbing Volume section 801.2 to require drip pans or some other secondary means of protection under any sanitary, grease or drain lines that run above food service prep areas?
  • Comments:
Local officials are requiring drain pans be installed above the drop ceiling on the first floor and then plumbed to a drain beneath the drain lines above that drop ceiling that serve a 2nd floor bar area above. The lines are run above a commercial restaurant kitchen area including the cook line and food prep areas. This would be to catch any leaks that occur if pipe joints fail. Is it required to provide pans or move the drain lines so they do not run above food prep areas.
